On November 14, the nationwide population and agricultural census, which is conducted every 10 years, began. The data collection process will continue until December 19.
Information about this is distributed by the National Statistical Service of Georgia.
According to their information, the census will be conducted in two stages, which in the first stage involves electronic self-registration and then door-to-door data collection.
"In the first stage, from November 14 to November 23, data will be collected using the self-registration method (CAWI). During self-registration, respondents independently, without interviewers, through a computer/tablet/smartphone, using a standard Internet browser, fill out questionnaires electronically at the time and place of their choice. This method is convenient for respondents who do not want to visit the interviewer's home and/or do not have enough time for a face-to-face interview.
In order to fill out the electronic questionnaire, applicants must complete a simple registration on a special web platform created by Geostat, which is located on Geostat's website https://census2024.geostat.ge/ka. After filling out the electronic questionnaire, the respondents will receive a special code, which they must present to the Geostat interviewer who comes to them.
In the second stage, from November 29 to December 19, data will be collected by Geostat's 12,000 interviewers, on a door-to-door basis, using a tablet computer.
Along with the population census, an agricultural census will also be conducted. In addition to social and demographic data, through a special questionnaire, information will be collected about the agricultural activity of families, the structure of the land used by families, the number of livestock and poultry, as well as other important information at the level of municipalities, territorial units and villages.
All citizens of Georgia, as well as all citizens of foreign countries living in the territory of Georgia (who plan to stay in Georgia for more than 12 months) and stateless persons (who plan to stay in Georgia for more than 12 months) are obliged to undergo a census.
According to Articles 34 and 35 of the Law of Georgia "On Official Statistics", individual data are confidential and not subject to disclosure. Individual data about the respondent is stored in the manner established by the current legislation of Georgia.
As a result of the census, the latest information will be obtained about the number of the population, their sex-age structure, employment, education, health status, sources of livelihood and housing. Also through the agricultural component, data on the agricultural activity of households will be collected.
"The preliminary results of the census will be published in June 2025, and the final results will be published in June 2026," the information reads.
