GYLA chairman on the release of convicts in the case of July 5 - the amnesty should not have been spread according to the article on which they were sentenced - it is interesting, on what basis they received benefits

One of the conditions for joining the European Union was a full investigation of the events of July 5, and not benefits for those already punished. The organizers of the violence are still unpunished, - GYLA chairman Nona Kurdovanidze writes about this on the social network, thereby responding to the release from prison of those accused of violence against journalists and cameramen.

As Kurdovanidze writes, according to the article by which Davit Kutaladze and Tornike Davlasheridze were serving their sentences, amnesty should not have been spread.

"Today, it was reported that the convicts exposed in the violence committed against Lekso Lashkarava have left the prison.

The court was already lenient in the sanction applied to them, and during the consideration of the case, it removed one article that provided for a heavier sanction. Because of this, they had to leave the prison in the summer of 2025. According to the rule, amnesty should not be spread on the article on which the punishment was served. It is interesting on what other basis they received benefits. We will address this question publicly to the Penitentiary Department and we will also write to them in addition.
