According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lithuania does not consider the elections held in Georgia as free and fair elections and calls for an independent international investigation. Landbergis told journalists about this before the session of the Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union.
"First, we do not consider the elections held in Georgia as free and fair elections, second: Lithuania called for an independent international investigation. To know clear answers, to really understand what happened, we need an investigation. If the Georgian government refuses to cooperate with the European Commission on this issue, if it refuses to investigate, this also says something. If they don't want us to know what happened, it means that all the claims that Georgia is still on the European path are not true. Whether there will be a consensus on this in the EU is difficult to say, and I think it will be quite difficult. This also applies to the imposition of sanctions. It is not easy," said Gabrielus Landbergis.
According to him, a constructive debate regarding the issue of Georgia will be held at today's meeting.
