The representatives of the Public Defender of Georgia visited 14 citizens placed in temporary isolation cells and 2 citizens in the clinic due to physical injuries received during the rally. The office of the ombudsman disseminates information in this regard.
According to their report, 10 of the 16 persons visited by the Public Defender's representatives claim to be victims of alleged mistreatment or excessive force.
"The Office of the Public Defender responded accordingly and called on the Special Investigation Service to immediately start and conduct an effective investigation - to identify all responsible persons. In addition, the Office of the Public Defender handed over publicly disseminated information and footage to the Special Investigation Service, in which the facts of possible excess of force on the part of the police and interference in the activities of journalists are depicted.
The Office of the Public Defender will monitor the course of the investigation in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the response to the facts of human rights violations," the statement said.
