Prosecutor: Mate Devidze suddenly attacked the policemen, the law enforcement officers did not come into contact with him - as a result of Devidze's flexible stick, the policemen received injuries in the hand, forehead, ring and back area

According to prosecutor Ani Khubejashvili, the arrest of 20-year-old Mate Devidze was not in progress when he suddenly attacked the policemen.

According to the prosecutor's explanation, the prosecution has video evidence confirming the aforementioned.

According to Khubejashvili, the policemen were injured, however, this did not cause "disruption of their health".

"Attack on a police officer is a serious crime. The prosecution made public a part of the evidence - video recordings, in which the fact of the defendant's attack on 3 police officers is clearly visible. Video recordings have been requested in the case, these recordings have been requested from television, and publicly distributed footage has also been shown. The recordings clearly show the moment of the defendant's attack, when he used a baton to attack the head of the police officers and injure them. The situation was developing on Melikishvili avenue, when the police officers called on the citizens to maintain order. Mate Devidze, who was away from them, suddenly attacked the police using a stick, this is clearly visible in the records. In the case, there are testimonies of witnesses and an expert's report, which proves that the person depicted in the record is really Mate Devidze.

Mate Devidze was not detained by the law enforcement officers when he came and attacked them, he was away from them, the patrol inspectors were not at all in contact with Mate Devidze when he attacked them, no procedural and investigative actions were taken against him," Khubejashvili told journalists.

In addition to commenting to the media, the prosecutor explained in his motion during the trial that as a result of Mate Devidze's flexible stick, the law enforcement officers received injuries in the hand, forehead, ring and back area.

For information, Mate Devidze is among the 16 persons who were detained by the law enforcement officers during the ongoing rally on Melikishvili avenue. He, along with others, was accused of disobeying a policeman and committing petty hooliganism, however, after the expiration of the 48-hour administrative detention, when he was supposed to be released from the isolation cell, the article was changed and now the investigation is underway for a possible criminal offense.

Mate Devidze was charged under the first part of Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which refers to an attack on a police officer.
