For the first time, the sixth President of Georgia will be elected indirectly by an electoral college consisting of 300 members

The sixth President of Georgia will be elected for the first time, indirectly, by an electoral college consisting of 300 members. Presidential elections will be held on December 14, at 09:00, in the Parliament Palace.

Taking into account the Constitution and legislation of Georgia, all members of the Parliament, Supreme Councils of the Autonomous Republics of Abkhazia and Adjara, as well as members of the City Councils nominated by the political parties, proportionally, should be represented in the electoral college.

According to the constitution, in order for a candidate to be elected in the first round, he must collect at least 2/3 of the votes of the collegium members. If the presidential candidate fails to collect 2/3, the second round will be held.

The inauguration of the president will take place on December 29, the third Sunday after the election day. The head of state will hold the position for a period of 5 years.

The national party "Georgian Dream" nominated Mikheil Kavelashvili for the position of the sixth President of Georgia.
