The EU has always told us to manage public expectations. Today, you cannot tell me that our country will become a member of the European Union tomorrow, because neither the European Union nor Georgia is ready for that, - Foreign Affairs Minister Maka Bochorishvili told journalists in the parliament.

Before that, Bochorishvili spoke about the importance of relations with the European Union and noted that relations with the EU member states are very important, as well as relations with the institutions of the European Union.

"You know very well that at the moment the process of approving the new composition of the European Union and the European Commission is underway. Our priority will be, of course, to deepen relations with them, to hold consultations on all important issues. Joining the European Union is a long and difficult process. There will be difficult issues in this process, and these issues should not be politicized in such a way as to damage the final goal, which is the country's accession to the European Union. This process needs management, a constructive approach. We must seek a constructive solution to all problematic issues, we must be able to talk to each other. Without dialogue, it will be impossible to achieve success in this direction", said Bochorishvili.

In addition, the head of the Foreign Ministry spoke about the resolutions adopted by the European Parliament addressed to Georgia.

"Regarding the resolution, the project under consideration and the resolutions of the European Parliament in general, it is very unfortunate that the resolutions adopted by this institution in relation to Georgia in recent years are characterized by absolutely inaccurate information, imprecise provisions and calls that do not correspond to the relations between the partners at all. Consequently, under such conditions, it is very difficult to take such documents, which are completely out of touch with reality, seriously and to talk seriously about the content of these documents," said Bochorishvili.

In addition, Bochorishvili called the journalist's question "absolutely speculative interpretation", if Georgia is offered membership in the European Union today, whether Georgia refuses to join the European Union.

"We do not say no to anyone. This is a purely speculative interpretation of what you are asking. This is a purely speculative interpretation of the statement that was made. One, that the EU itself has always told us, you have to manage public expectations. Today, you cannot tell me that our country will become a member of the European Union tomorrow because neither the European Union nor Georgia is ready for it. When the European Union and Georgia are ready, the EU member states will make a decision about it. Our job, which is, we must do everything to bring this process to 2030, which is our promise that Georgia will be the best prepared for membership among the candidate countries," said Bochorishvili.
