During the night, the representatives of the Public Defender visited 11 persons, 9 of whom were arrested - 9 cases of alleged improper treatment were revealed, of which 3 relate to journalists, - it was mentioned in the information released by the Office of the Public Defender.

According to the office, it was not possible to interview the two people who were taken to the clinic, due to multiple injuries.

"On November 29, throughout the night, representatives of the Public Defender met with the detained citizens in order to determine their condition.

During the night, the trustees visited 11 persons, 9 of whom were detained. In addition, it was not possible to interview the two persons who were taken to the clinic, due to multiple injuries. 9 cases of alleged mistreatment were identified, 3 of which concern journalists.6 people had visual injuries. For example, one of the journalists had a fractured head, the second journalist's left eye socket area was reddened and his face was swollen, and the third one had swelling and scratches on his nose, cheeks and forehead. In addition, one of the detainees brought in during the trustee's stay in the isolator needed to be immediately transferred to the clinic for surgical intervention," the information says.

According to the announcement, representatives of the Public Defender continue to visit other detainees, both in Tbilisi and in Western Georgia.

"The Office of the Public Defender has already informed the Special Investigation Service about all the detained alleged victims of improper treatment.

The Public Defender calls on the Special Investigation Service/Prosecution Service to conduct an effective investigation within a short period of time and to identify all responsible persons whose actions, possible assignments or tacit consent resulted in gross violations of the rights of peaceful protesters and journalists. Also, it is extremely necessary to conduct an investigation with the correct legal qualification (with special articles of ill-treatment), which accurately reflects the assessment of the actions that were carried out during the night," the information says.

In addition, the Public Defender calls on the Ministry of Internal Affairs not to delay the investigation process and to cooperate with the investigation in order to identify all the guilty policemen, special forces and relevant heads of the Ministry and to provide all necessary information and documentation to the investigation.

"The Public Defender calls on the courts to ensure thorough protection of the right to a fair trial of the arrested protestors, to evaluate the issue of the legality of the arrest and not to rely only on the explanations of the police in the absence of neutral evidence," the statement reads.
