French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs: We are concerned about reports of repression against demonstrators and journalists - civil society must be protected

France is closely monitoring the current situation in Georgia, - the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has announced.

"We are concerned about reports of repression against demonstrators and journalists, and we call for the right to peaceful demonstration to be respected. "Fundamental freedoms, political pluralism and civil society must be protected," the statement said.

According to the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, France, together with its European partners, will continue to maintain close ties with the Georgian people and support their European aspirations.
