It is alarming that the arrested persons point to the deliberate retaliation by the members of the special purpose squad, - it is stated in the statement of the Public Defender's Office.
As mentioned in the statement, the Office of the Public Defender has visited 125 persons arrested/injured during the protests held in Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi on November 28-30.
"Detailed information about the condition of 81 of them has already been provided to the public during the past two days and nights. We would like to inform the public that the representatives of the Public Defender additionally visited 44 persons arrested on November 30, 38 of whom indicated improper treatment by the police (11 did not want to respond). 26 detainees had various body injuries, mostly injuries were visible on the face.It is alarming that the arrested persons point to deliberate retaliation by the members of the special purpose squad. According to some of the detainees, they surrounded them, did not give them the opportunity to escape, during which the law enforcement officers hit the participants of the rally indiscriminately. According to some of the detainees, they were subjected to improper treatment not only at the moment of arrest, but also later - during their stay in the car.
According to the detainees, according to the existing practice, their arrest and alleged ill-treatment were carried out by the members of the special purpose squad, and then they were handed over to the patrol police officers.
It is worth noting that a significant part of the detainees indicates the confiscation of their personal belongings (mobile phone, laptop, wallet with money in it, etc.), the further fate of which is unknown to them.
The Office of the Public Defender provides information to the Special Investigation Service about the alleged victim of police violence. The office also provided the service with a number of video materials and information presented in public sources, where the facts of alleged improper treatment of citizens and journalists by the police were revealed.
The representatives of the Public Defender will continue to visit the arrested persons, including journalists, and the public will be informed about the results."The hotline of the Public Defender's Office - 14 81 - works 24 hours a day," the statement reads.
