Irakli Alasania: Violent suppression of the people's voice is unacceptable - civil conflict can be avoided only by hearing the voice of the people and not by violently confronting them

Building a state is possible only with reliable and loyal partners, not by severing relations with them. Civil conflict can be avoided only by listening to the voice of the people and not by violent confrontation with the people. Today, political tension is felt all over the world. I would like our country to walk the path to freedom with wisdom, firm faith and caution, - this is how the former Minister of Defense, Irakli Alasania, responds to the government's decision to suspend negotiations with the European Union until the end of 2028.

According to the former Minister of Defense, the inhumane violence, which leads the processes to an irreversible, worse civil conflict, forced him to repeat his position once again.

"Ten years ago, I made a clear political assessment about the country's foreign course being in danger, which was not so widely visible then, as it has become today.

I left politics eight years ago and I try not to get involved in political processes, I avoid public statements.

Those of you who know me know that I have served the state with clean hands throughout my conscious life, both in war and in peacetime. I made my contribution to establishing Georgia's worthy place next to developed European states.

The announced political decision to suspend negotiations with Europe and the inhumane violence against young people and peaceful participants of fair protests, leading the processes to irreversible, worse civil conflict, forced me to repeat my position once again:Violent suppression of people's voices is unacceptable. Struggle for the European future is not only the only pragmatic way, but also a moral one for loyalty to the memory of the thousands of worthy citizens who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Georgia.

It is possible to build a state only with reliable and loyal partners and not by severing relations with them, avoiding civil strife only by listening to the voice of the people and not by violent confrontation with the people. Today, political tension is felt all over the world. I would like our country to walk the path to freedom with wisdom, firm faith and caution.Victory for Georgia", writes Irakli Alsania.

We remind you that the Government of Georgia decided not to put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028. Also, until the end of 2028, it refuses any budget grant from the European Union. This decision of the government was followed by protests in Georgia. Protest rallies have been held in Tbilisi and regions for several days.
