Three persons have been arrested on the charges of attacking policemen and damaging property by setting fire to the actions taking place in Tbilisi, - the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports on this and explains that the said crime stipulated by the "Criminal Law Code" is punishable by up to 7 years of imprisonment.
In addition, the participants of the action are also punished according to the administrative rules. According to the agency, a total of 224 people were arrested during the actions according to the Code of Administrative Offenses.
"We would like to inform the public about the events that took place on December 1-2 of this year on Rustaveli Avenue, in the vicinity of the Parliament.
As a result of illegal and violent actions carried out by the participants of the rally, 21 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured last night. Some of the injured have severe head, face and body injuries.
In total, 113 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs received health damage during the recent actions, 4 of them are still in medical facilities.
Similar to the previous days, despite repeated warnings, during the course of the rally, some of the participants of the rally took place repeatedly in provocative actions.
The public watched how the violent groups damaged the Parliament building and the infrastructure located on Rustaveli Avenue.
Late at night, the participants of the rally damaged the municipal property and the property of private individuals on Rustaveli Avenue, erected barricades through the damaged items and set fire to certain items.
In order to inform the public, we would like to explain that in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, within the framework of the current actions, all criminal acts committed by violent groups are being investigated under Articles 187 and 353 of the Criminal Code.
As part of the investigation, the employees of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of operational measures and investigative actions, charged two persons with the charge of attacking the policemen and damaging things by setting fire to them during the performance of official activities: M.G., born in 2007. and convicted many times in the past - born in 2003 G.M. arrested.
Crimes are punishable by up to 7 years of imprisonment.
The investigation established that on November 29 of this year, during the rally held on Rustaveli Avenue, on April 9 Street, the accused G.M. injured an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in various parts of his body as a result of firing pyrotechnics, who was given appropriate medical assistance. On the same day, M.G. threw an incendiary object into the building of the legislative body, as a result of which a fire broke out in one of the rooms of the parliament building.
As a result of investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers, both accused were arrested in Tbilisi.
Also, we inform the public that three persons have been arrested on charges of attacking police officers and damaging property by setting fire to them during the performance of official activities within the framework of the ongoing investigation.
The investigation in the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues in order to identify and arrest all the persons who committed the crime.
We note once again that each illegal action will be followed by an appropriate legal response from law enforcers.
Here, we would like to provide the public with information about the persons arrested for petty hooliganism and resisting and disobedience to the police during the protest held near the Parliament of Georgia in recent days. According to the Code of Administrative Offenses, a total of 224 persons have been arrested.
Administrative case materials of 98 persons were submitted to the Tbilisi City Court, of which the case proceedings were completed against 74 persons.
Out of 74 completed cases, 36 persons were fined;
Administrative detention was applied to 34 persons;
Notice was applied to 4 persons.
Proceedings of administrative offenses against the rest of the persons continue in the courts.
As it is known, even today, protests are planned in Tbilisi and other cities of Georgia. The employees of different divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be mobilized in the vicinity of the actions held in order to maintain law and order.
Georgian legislation protects the right to assembly, demonstration and expression, as well as defines the forms of protest in order to protect public order and security.
We call on the organizers of the rally to protest within the limits set by the law, any illegal action will be followed by appropriate legal response from the police," the statement said.
