It's really not difficult for me to assess what I see and it's really not difficult for me to say that it's absolutely unacceptable when the police increase their powers, - Public Defender Levan Ioselian said this while talking to journalists regarding the action of the police forces during the ongoing protests in the country.
According to him, when specific people are not punished for such misdeeds, it becomes more and more brutal.
"In general, I call such cases brutal, because it is unthinkable to treat people like this, to attack them - especially journalists who are doing their duty and reporting information, which is their constitutional right. I don't really have a hard time judging what I'm seeing, and I really don't have a hard time saying that it's absolutely unacceptable when the police overreach. Most importantly, such actions should be followed by concrete responsibility. The main issue here is that when specific people are not punished for such misdeeds, it then becomes more and more brutal. Every time a new protest action is held, we see that such actions are characterized by even more brutality. Therefore, it is important that the special investigation service conducts specific investigations in this direction and, most importantly, the investigations should be followed by results", said Levan Ioseliyan.
In addition, the public defender spoke about a specific example when a minor child was in front of the special forces during the protest rally. Ioselian noted that the child should be in a safe environment, where there is an epicenter of escalation and a very high risk of harming people, the presence of children there is absolutely unjustified.
"Children have the right to participate in the demonstration, but this demonstration must be peaceful.
Specifically, the place where we saw this child is an increased source of danger, therefore, in the best interests of this child, he had to be removed from the place, and therefore I called his parents. I will do the same the next time I see a child near a water jet aimed at protesters. The child should be in a safe environment. "One can take part, but where there is an epicenter of escalation and a very high risk of harming people, the presence of children there is absolutely unjustified," said Levan Ioselian.
