Vedant Patel: We condemn the excessive use of force by the police against Georgian demonstrators - we call on all parties to ensure the peaceful nature of the protests

We condemn the excessive use of force by the police against the Georgian demonstrators, - said the US State Department's deputy spokesperson, Vedant Patel, at a briefing.

In addition, Patel calls on all parties to ensure the peaceful nature of the rally.

"We condemn the excessive use of force by the police against the Georgian demonstrators. They are trying to exercise their freedom of peaceful assembly and expression, including the opportunity to peacefully protest. The United States is deeply concerned about reports of the detention and attacks on journalists, and we believe that a free press is a cornerstone of a democratic system. We call on all parties to ensure the peaceful nature of the protest rallies and we call on the Georgian government to strictly uphold the rule of law, human rights, and fundamental freedoms," - said Vedant Patel.
