The Strasbourg court confirmed that Davit Kezerashvili embezzled 5 million 60 thousand euros intended for the Georgian army and found that Kezerashvili was not prosecuted on political grounds - we will wait to see how European colleagues will react to him, who portrayed Kezerashvili as a media manager - Minister of Justice Anri Okhanashvili said at the press conference.

According to him, the European Court also established that the verdict of the Supreme Court of Georgia regarding the conviction of Kezerashvili was justified and there was no violation of the presumption of innocence against him.

"The Strasbourg court confirmed that Davit Kezerashvili, during his tenure as the Minister of Defense, shortly before the August 2008 war, squandered a large amount of money intended for the Georgian army, namely 5 million 60 thousand euros, which at today's rate is about 15 million GEL. The Strasbourg Court found that Davit Kezerashvili was not prosecuted on political grounds, and the verdict of the Supreme Court of Georgia regarding Kezerashvili's conviction was justified and there was no violation of the presumption of innocence against him.

I would like to remind the public about the criminal scheme committed by Kezerashvili. Kezerashvili, shortly before the war of August 2008, during his tenure as the Minister of Defense, in violation of the legislation, signed a fictitious contract in one day with a company registered in "Offshore" regarding the combat training of the Georgian army. Moreover, the said agreement was signed bypassing the General Staff of the Defense Forces. In fact, no training of the Georgian army was conducted and as a result, money belonging to the Georgian army was deliberately wasted. 5 million 60 thousand euros. Kezerashvili, enriched by the looting of the Georgian army, additionally demanded 15,000 euros from the state for moral damages in the Strasbourg court, which was refused by the Strasbourg court. Taking everything into account, the Strasbourg court confirmed that Kezerashvili had committed a particularly serious crime and thus recognized the legality of the verdict of the Supreme Court of Georgia. I congratulate our state, the Georgian army and our society on this worthy victory in the European Court. Also, we will wait for the European colleagues, the authors of the resolution, which presented Kezerashvili as a media manager, media caretaker, how they will react to this person declared guilty by the Strasbourg court", said Anri Okhanashvili.
