Today, the principles on which the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is based are facing serious challenges. My country became one of the first victims of the violation of international norms, which resulted in the occupation of 20% of the territory of Georgia by Russia, - said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili, during her speech at the 31st meeting of the Council of Ministers of the OSCE in Malta.
The information is disseminated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Bochorishvili, the ongoing war in Ukraine is the continuation of Russia's aggressive actions in Georgia, which poses the biggest threat to Europe's security.
The minister emphasized that Russia continues its illegal occupation of the indivisible parts of Georgia - Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region in gross violation of the fundamental principles and norms of international law.He drew attention to the difficult situation in the regions of Georgia occupied by Russia in terms of security, human rights and humanitarianism, and noted that the 2008 EU-brokered ceasefire agreement is still not being implemented.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of the presence of international security and observer mechanisms in the occupied territories.
The head of the foreign ministry also spoke about the need to consolidate the policy of peaceful resolution of the conflict and the support of the international community. In this context, she focused on the important role of international negotiations in Geneva.
"Georgia appreciates the support of its partners for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is important that the search for peaceful ways to resolve the Russia-Georgia conflict is actively on the international agenda," said Maka Bochorishvili.
