We welcome the courage of the Georgian people, who are taking to the streets to defend democracy and European values, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said at the 31st meeting of the OSCE Council of Ministers in Malta, whose words are broadcast by the German Foreign Ministry on Social Platform X.
"We welcome the courage of the Georgian people, who are taking to the streets to defend democracy and European values. We call on the Georgian government to return to the European path. It is the government that turns away from this path with its words and actions," wrote the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the same time, German Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anna Lührmann, writes on the social network that "Georgian Dream" is trying to intimidate and suppress daily mass public protests, which resulted in its deviating from the path towards the European Union and turning towards authoritarianism.
"Yesterday's arrests of opposition leaders based on conspiracy theories, including disinformation about Georgia's Western partners, including the arrest of "Coalition for Change" leader Nika Gvaramia, are another violation of European norms and EU values," Anna Lührmann wrote.
