The European Register of Independent Agencies for the Development of the Quality of Higher Education (EQAR), based on the gap in 2023, made a decision to suspend the registration for the center, the National Center for the Development of the Quality of Education reports.

As stated in the statement issued by the center, they hope that the decision is temporary.

In addition, as the center states, ENQA membership and EQAR registration are not related to the recognition of diplomas issued in Georgia.

"We would like to inform the public about the status of ENQA and EQAR membership. As you know, the National Center for the Development of the Quality of Education is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is also registered in the European Register of Independent Agencies for the Development of the Quality of Higher Education (EQAR).

In order to renew the membership status of ENQA and EQAR, a visit of international experts was made to Tbilisi in October 2023. According to the expert group's conclusion (the document is publicly available on both ENQA and the center's website: https://eqe.ge/.../static/1096/enqa-s-gare-shefaseba-2023),

The National Center for the Development of the Quality of Education was evaluated in full compliance with the European Area of Higher Education quality assurance standards and guidelines (ESG 2015) in 11 standards, and in partial compliance in 2 standards.

According to the opinion of ENQA experts, the center was not evaluated as non-compliant with the requirements in relation to any standard.

It should be noted here that the National Center for the Development of the Quality of Education has established the best practices regarding the implementation of 5 standards.

After receiving the opinion of ENQA experts, the center applied to EQAR to renew the registration, the decision of which has not been submitted to the center at this stage. However, according to preliminary, unofficial data, the European Register of Independent Agencies for the Development of the Quality of Higher Education (EQAR), based on the gap in 2023, made a decision to suspend the registration for the center.

Here we explain that the mentioned defect has already been eliminated and we have made appropriate changes in the legislation. Therefore, we hope that EQAR's decision is temporary.

However, after the conclusion is officially received, the center will appeal the said decision, as we note once again that all the main flaws that EQAR committee members may have questions about have already been eliminated and corrected.

Additionally, we inform you that ENQA membership and EQAR registration are not related to the recognition of diplomas issued in Georgia. Even before obtaining the membership of the mentioned organizations, the diplomas issued in Georgia were recognized without any delay, both in the member states of the European Union and in any other country.

Regarding the recognition of the center by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME), it is in no way related to ENQA membership or EQAR registration, as the center gained WFME recognition in 2018, and the ENQA full member status and EQAR registration have been implemented in 2019.

In addition, a large number of agencies recognized by WFME are not members of ENQA and are not registered in EQAR," the statement said.
