Edgars Rinkevičs: repression against peaceful demonstrators in Georgia is not compatible with the status of a candidate country for the European Union

Repression against peaceful demonstrators in Georgia is not compatible with the status of a candidate country for the European Union, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevičs said at a press conference held in Klaipeda together with the Presidents of Lithuania and Estonia, Gitanas Nauseda and Alar Karis.

According to him, now it depends on Georgia itself - whether the country wants to continue the European path or to stop or stop it.

"I join my colleagues and express my full support for the Georgian people and the European course of Georgia. We are probably one of the biggest friends and supporters of Georgia and we will continue to do so, but it must be said that now a lot depends on Georgia itself. Does the country want to continue the European path or decide to stop or stop it? Georgians should make this decision. Also, from my point of view, I can repeat what has already been said, that is, to strongly condemn repressions against peaceful demonstrators in Georgia. I think this is not compatible with the status of a candidate country or with the democratic values of a country that wants to join the European Union," said Edgars Rinkevičs.
