Amiran Gamkrelidze to the decision-makers in the country: the key to easing the crisis is still in your hands, no one has ever won such a large-scale confrontation with the population

No one has ever won such a large-scale confrontation with the population, it will only cause irreparable damage to the country. Let's not make an irreparable mistake and let's not make our enemies happy, said the statement of the former head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze.

Amiran Gamkrelidze publishes an extensive appeal on "Facebook" and appeals to decision-makers in the country that the escalation of the situation may turn into uncontrolled processes, for which the entire responsibility will fall on the state.

In addition, according to Gamkrelidze, the participants of the rally should be regularly provided with full information about the health risks during the use of tear gas and preventive means should be available to them on the spot.

"I address those who are affected by this, the decision-makers in our country today! As every citizen of Georgia, I am one of them, a doctor by profession, a witness and participant of many, including crisis situations, I observe ongoing peaceful protests throughout Georgia, in which hundreds of thousands of citizens participate, the scale of which I do not remember. Unfortunately, for the 9th day now, the state has been using various forms of disproportionate force, especially in Tbilisi, and the confrontation has already reached a critical limit. As a doctor and a person who has been standing guard over the health of the population of Georgia for a dozen years, I am very aware of such an escalation, which can turn into uncontrolled processes, and all responsibility for this will be fully borne by the state. A large part of the participants of the protest is our future generation, the youth, and raising their hand to them with the methods used today, which is happening and is manifested in the hospitalization of hundreds of people due to intentional traumatic injuries, including complex injuries and thousands of so-called With prolonged exposure to tear gas and pepper spray (exposure for several days), there has never been a similar protest in my memory in the country, except for April 9th, when unfortunately another type of poison was used and we had casualties, God forbid. It was only a one-time (one-day) use, and believe me, this long-term impact will not go unnoticed in terms of the health of the exposed people, whether they are peaceful protesters, nearby residents or special forces themselves. I am sure that my colleagues, the medical staff of ambulances and hospitals, are doing their best to provide timely medical assistance to people, as always. Historically, medical personnel are always on call during these types of crises, but protesters need to be routinely provided with full information about the health risks associated with tear gas use and have preventative measures available at the scene (at least N95 masks, saline solution, water for rapid skin and face washes). For processing and decontamination of clothing, give them printed recommendations on what preventive measures to take at this time and systematically This should be announced on radio and social media. This should be ensured by the relevant state structures).

Let's not turn a blind eye to the fact that there is a political crisis in the country, it is getting worse and worse, and let's not lead it into an impasse from which it will be increasingly difficult to get out. You know very well that this pleases only one country, the northern neighbor, who wants constant chaos in this country, and let's not please the enemy. Our real friends offer us real ways out so that we remain in the Western orbit and do not miss a real chance to stay on the path of Euro and North Atlantic integration. Let's not make an irreparable mistake at this crossroads of the country's development. The generation of fathers can never and should never win in the fight with youth, this is the law of dialectics. In such a crisis, the strong must give in, and this will not be a sign of weakness, but rather of wisdom and a correct strategic vision. The key to defuse the crisis is still in your hands. No one has ever won such a large-scale confrontation with the population, it will only cause irreparable damage to the country. Let's not make an irreparable mistake and let's not make our enemies happy!", Amiran Gamkrelidze wrote on the social network.
