According to Saba Buadze, one of the leaders of the "Strong Georgia" coalition, representatives of various structural units of the Tbilisi City Hall are threatening the employees who supported the petition against the decision to stop the accession negotiations with the European Union until the end of 2028.
According to him, the representatives of the City Hall ask the signatories of the petition to withdraw their signatures in exchange for a New Year's bonus.
"Along with the 12-day civil resistance, we want to respond to the repressions announced in the public service, and in particular, in the Tbilisi City Hall. Tbilisi is a truly European city, and this is confirmed by the protests and continuous resistance that is taking place in the streets of Tbilisi to protect the main European value, freedom. Employees of Tbilisi City Hall are the people who immediately responded to the special operation that is going on against our constitutional order. Employees of Tbilisi City Hall openly, unequivocally and emphatically expressed their commitment to the Constitution and integration into the European Union, in response to this, the most corrupt and shameful mayor in the history of Tbilisi announced repressions against these people. We have seen how they have drafted changes to the civil service legislation that will simplify the process of reorganizing and prosecuting these people. Also, we have seen how these people are silenced.
We have information that in Tbilisi City Hall, representatives of various structural units of Tbilisi City Hall are bargaining with more than 250 petition signatories, threatening them and asking them to withdraw the signature that they confirmed for Georgia's European future in exchange for a New Year's bonus. This is a shameful and criminal act. Also, we were informed that it is planned to completely cancel these bonuses in order to make the situation even more tense in various structural units of the Tbilisi City Hall and the municipality, so that people hang each other.
First of all, I want to say a big thank you to these people. I bow to their courage and their commitment to public service. These people are the foundation of public service and I want to tell them that they are not alone. Behind you are hundreds of thousands of people who come out on the streets of Tbilisi and protest against everything that is happening against our country.
I would like to appeal to the senior officials of the Tbilisi City Hall not to participate in the repressions announced by Kakha Kaladze, as well as in the criminal reorganization and not to become complicit in criminal crimes. In the history of this city, Kakha Kaladze has already inscribed himself with shameful letters as the most corrupt mayor and as one of the main flag bearers of this Russian campaign. Don't join him!", Buadze said.
