There will be tougher sanctions and the inclusion of specific people in the "Magnitsky Act list" - the suspension of strategic cooperation, I'm sure, was coordinated between the new and future administrations, so it's a myth that "Georgian Dream" says that they will "coordinate" with the Trump administration - “Gakharia for Georgia" member Dimitri Tskitishvili said in an interview with PalitraNews.
According to him, the sanctions are part of the international pressure that is applied to the government due to the theft of the elections.
"Sanctions are part of the international pressure on the government for stealing the elections, systemic crisis in the country and fundamental violations of human rights. This is one part of the great misdemeanor-crime committed by the government. We can assume that this is also one of the components. This statement is not the only one and it says that it is only a part and the rest is being worked on. There will be stricter sanctions, the inclusion of specific people in the "Magnitsky Act list", which implies the disclosure of names, in the case of visas, it may not even be announced and we will not be able to find out who is included in the list. We can only assume that the whole government and other officials are there, but the Magnitsky list is a more fundamental issue," said Tskitishvili.
In addition, when asked how far the steps of the United States of America in relation to Georgia can go, Tskitishvili says that it depends on the actions of the "Georgian Dream".
"It depends on how the government behaves and how much it understands what is happening in the country and that it has lost both local and foreign legitimacy. The [US] statement does not mention the Georgian government anywhere, the officials are mentioned only as "Georgian Dream". Actually, they got themselves into a crisis. Unfortunately, the state is also in a political and systemic crisis, which is insurmountable in such forms as the "Georgian Dream" is trying to do. Ignoring the protest as if it were trivial will not lead the country out of the crisis. The protest may change its face, but by turning a blind eye and turning its back on the opposition, which showed that a large part of the population does not recognize the results of the elections and stubbornly says that the situation in the country is unfair, the deep crisis will not be resolved, that is, the government does not have a mandate from the population in the country. He wants to rule this country. First of all, thanks to the stubborn protest of the people of Georgia, the international community practically unanimously recognized that the legitimacy of these elections cannot be recognized," Tskitishvili said.
As for the statements of "Georgian Dream" that after the inauguration of Donald Trump, Georgia-US relations will be overloaded, Tskitishvili says that this is a myth.
"America does not depend on personalities, of course, the president's factor is of great importance, but procedurally the United States of America is in a period of transition when the current and future administrations work in coordination. The incoming administration does not interfere in routine matters, but these are not routine, these are fundamental political decisions, including the suspension of strategic cooperation. I'm sure this was coordinated between the new and incoming administrations. That is why specific people are named so that decisions can be made with them. The old administration does not make principled decisions without agreeing with the new one. That's why it is a myth that the "Georgian Dream" says that they will "coordinate" with the Trump administration - this is not the case with America. America has a procedural democracy. If the system recognizes a violation of human rights, the process will take place regardless of who is the head of the administration. The expectation of the Trump administration is a myth to buy time, to convince his followers that everything is fine - in fact, nothing is fine with them. By January 20, they are trying to bring the new reality to the Trump administration," said Tskitishvili.
