I cannot elect a mental Russian as the president of the country, and in general, I do not share the fairness and legitimacy of these elections, - the Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Zurab Jgeburia, said in connection with the planned presidential elections in the parliament.
Accordingly, Zurab Jgeburia is not going to come to the parliament today and participate in the presidential elections within the framework of the electoral college.
"I don't need advice on where and with whom to stand - I live in this country with my own opinion, worldview and belief in a happy future for my country, my fellow countrymen, Georgian youth, my big family, children and grandchildren," Zurab Jgeburia's statement says.
For information, another deputy of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, Temur Mzhavia, is not planning to come to the parliament either. "I, a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, refuse to cooperate with the de facto government of Georgia and announce a boycott of the presidential elections of Georgia scheduled for December 14 of this year," Mzhavia told "InterpressNews".
On December 14, the electoral college will elect the president of Georgia. Only one candidacy of Mikheil Kavelashvili has been nominated for the position of president, who will be the sixth head of state elected by the electoral college and the first indirectly.
The voting process will start at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 2:00 p.m. in the Parliament Palace.
The presence of the majority of the full composition of the electoral college - at least 151 members - is sufficient to conduct indirect elections of the president.
The vote of 2/3 of the full composition of the collegium - at least 200 members - is enough to elect the president.
The indirectly elected president will hold office for five years.
The electoral college has 300 members. The collegium includes: - 150 members of the parliament, all members of the highest representative body of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara - a total of 21 deputies, all 20 members of the highest representative body of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and 109 members from the city councils.
