Civil activist Niko Managadze was arrested administratively last night. This information was shared with "InterpressNews" by his lawyer, Mariam Pataridze.
According to the lawyer, there was another person with Managadze at the time of his arrest, who was also detained. Both of them were transferred to the third isolator in Dighomi.
The lawyer speculates that the reason for Managadze’s arrest may be related to the fact that he failed to report to the police department and requested to participate in the process in the presence of a magistrate judge.
"Niko Managadze was arrested last night at around 10:30 PM, after returning home from a protest. It is presumed that unidentified so-called law enforcement officers chased him. When Niko was contacted by the police department for investigation participation, he requested to take part in the process with the presence of a magistrate judge, and we did not report. I personally spoke with the investigator who contacted Niko and informed him that we would attend the questioning at the court. It seems Niko was punished for this. A few hours after this communication, he was arrested on Kostava Street, near the printing press. They mentioned why he didn’t show up when the investigator summoned him for questioning, accusing him of making things difficult. Now, they were taking him to the police department in another way.
An absurd, routine protocol was drawn up against him, which, of course, Niko did not sign. They claimed he insulted the police and resisted, although at no point did he perceive the individuals as police officers, even when they were in the car. They were not in uniform, nor did they present official documents to verify the identity or position of the police officers," stated Mariam Pataridze.
