There was an intense discussion at the meeting and a desire to do more, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said at the press conference after the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels.
According to Kallas, sanctions require the agreement of all 27 member states and “unfortunately, we are still here.”
“What we discussed today with the Commission is the suspension of the visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports. I must say that the discussion was very intense and there was also a great desire to do more. Many said, let’s see how things will develop and we are ready to take additional steps, but, as you know, we need the agreement of all 27 members for sanctions and unfortunately, we are still here. But I think that suspending the visa-free regime is a first step and a symbolic one," said Kaja Kallas.
