During a debate in the European Parliament on Georgia, Polish MEP Malgorzata Gosiewska addressed the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, who had stated the day before that "a lot can happen before December 29."

"Ms. Kallas, what does 'a lot can happen before December 29' mean? What are you waiting for? Bloodshed? The arrest of President Zurabishvili, as they did with President Saakashvili? You said the list of people who should be sanctioned is ready, so do it! At least do that! We must act without delay—Georgians are fighting for their future, let us help them," Gosiewska said.

She pointed out that thousands of Georgians have been taking to the streets for weeks against the policies of the Georgian Dream party, which she described as a pro-Russian party pushing the country toward Russia. She noted that the government's response has been arrests, violence, and the freezing of relations with the European Union.

Protests in Georgia have been held under the slogan "Wake Up Georgia," which she suggested could also be interpreted as "Wake Up Europe" as a call to stand with the demonstrators.
