A march titled "With Western Education Towards Europe!" is currently taking place in the direction of Rustaveli Avenue

Citizens gathered near the European Union Delegation Office in Georgia are holding a protest march titled "With Western Education Towards Europe!" towards Parliament.

The march includes individuals who have received education in Western countries or wish to continue their studies in the West.

In addition, members of the "University Community March" joined the procession on Chavchavadze Avenue. The march is composed of students and lecturers from Tbilisi State University and Ilia State University.

The protesters are carrying banners with slogans such as:

  • "Education is Freedom, Ignorance is Slavery,"
  • "I Will Not Study in Russia,"
  • "Education is the Most Powerful Weapon to Change the World."

As the participants of the protest state, today is a fight for freedom, values, and national ideals.

One of the participants stated: "We symbolically gathered at the EU Delegation Office to reach out to the international community, as their support is especially important in the current situation. Our march is titled 'With Western Education Towards Europe!' We believe that Western education is crucial and has no alternative globally. Instead of this intellectual resource flowing out due to hopelessness, incompetence, arrogance, injustice, and crumbling state institutions, it should serve the country under conditions of order. Today's protest unites those who were educated in the U.S. and Europe, as well as those who value Western principles."

The protesters' demands remain unchanged:

  1. Early elections must be called,
  2. The country must return to a pro-European foreign course,
  3. Political prisoners must be released.

For context, citizens are protesting the Georgian Dream's decision on November 28, which postponed opening EU accession negotiations until 2028. Their demands remain the same: early elections and the release of those detained during protests.
