The Helsinki Commission: If "Georgian Dream" wins, it will turn Georgia into a place for the projection of power and economic opportunity not only for Russia but also for China and Iran

The "Georgian Dream" is pulling Georgians away from their chosen path of Euro-Atlantic integration towards the axis of aggressors whose goal is to undermine the democratic world order, according to a statement by the U.S. Helsinki Commission.

The Commission believes that despite widespread popular resistance, "Georgian Dream" continues its integration with global autocrats.

"In June, Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze attended the inauguration of Iranian President Pezeshkian, and before that, 'Georgian Dream' attempted to strengthen economic ties between Iran and Georgia. At the same time, reports suggest that Iranian puppets supported 'Georgian Dream's' campaign by spreading anti-Western narratives," the statement reads.

Additionally, the Helsinki Commission recalls that in August, "Georgian Dream" signed a strategic partnership agreement with China. A Chinese consortium is currently building a deep-water port in Anaklia under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

"If 'Georgian Dream' succeeds in seizing power, the party will turn Georgia into a place for the projection of power and economic opportunity not only for its Russian patrons but also for China and Iran, to which 'Georgian Dream' has grown increasingly close," the statement concludes.
