"We are waiting for the EU’s proposal to open negotiations—the sooner, the better! In this case, the ball is in the EU’s court!" stated Davit Matikashvili, a leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party, during a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules.
He also emphasized that "this should not be used as an instrument of blackmail or leverage."
"The matter has a political component. The Prime Minister has repeatedly stated that we are fully prepared politically. As soon as the EU makes a move—whether in writing or as a formal decision—we are ready to agree immediately. It is entirely in our interest! The ball is in the EU’s court, and we are awaiting their step. When a decision is made, we will agree without delay. The sooner, the better! This is entirely up to the EU. We share the aspirations of the vast majority of our population, who, along with the government, have a strong desire for this to happen promptly," Matikashvili stated.
The Parliament also reviewed a petition titled "Open the Negotiations" submitted by a citizens’ group. However, due to technical issues, the document was not processed, as decided during today’s session of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules.
