Alain Berset: All forces, both the majority and the opposition, are obliged to open a dialogue and engage in it - the Council of Europe is ready to facilitate such a dialogue

All forces, both the majority and the opposition, are obliged to open a dialogue and engage in it, to protect and respect democratic principles - the Council of Europe is ready to facilitate such a dialogue, - the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, stated at the press conference today.

According to him, democracy cannot exist in conditions of such ill-treatment and constant confrontation.

“Polarization undermines democratic processes in Georgia. All forces, both the majority and the opposition, are obliged to open a dialogue and engage in it, to protect and respect democratic principles. Democracy cannot exist in conditions of such ill-treatment and constant confrontation. The Council of Europe is ready to facilitate such a dialogue. Of course, we can do this through mechanisms to build trust and confidence, but it is in the hands of the Georgian population and the institutions here to revive and strengthen full democracy. All minorities, civil society, etc. must be involved in this," Berset said.
