Berdia Sichinava: The situation is critical, but I do not want to create false expectations in the public, as if we will find a common solution by December 29 - we must force the government to make concessions and schedule elections through consistent actions

Whether the president will issue a new act specifically regarding the scheduling of elections is not provided for in the Constitution, this is how I read the Constitution, - said Berdia Sichinava, one of the leaders of the "Gakharia for Georgia" party, thereby evaluating the opinion of Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the "Coalition for Changes", according to which the president should dissolve the parliament and schedule early elections.

As Berdia Sichinava noted in the "Free Studio" program of "PalitraNews", the emergence of such expectations is not right, including for "sincere people who stand at the rally every day and wait for news every day".

Sichinava sees a solution in forcing the government to make concessions and schedule new parliamentary elections.

"We have stated a clear position on this issue. Our goal is to return the political process, to return the country to the constitutional framework of government, and not to let it fall into constitutional limbo.

The Constitution regulates a specific mechanism - in what cases the government can be dismissed and new elections can be called. I do not think that we should enter this spiral. Whether the president will issue a new act specifically regarding the appointment of elections, the Constitution does not provide for this, this is how I read the Constitution. Even if the president has such a lever, to issue some act, what happens then? - Will Kalandarishvili's CEC rise up and hold new elections? Therefore, it would not be right to create such expectations, including for honest people who stand at the rally every day and wait for news every day.

This is a long-term, protest-long-term struggle that requires consistent actions and proper management of expectations. This is the solution to force the government to make concessions and schedule new parliamentary elections,” said Berdia Sichinava.

He assessed the current political situation in the country and noted that the situation in the country is critical.

In his opinion, scheduling new elections will only make sense if state institutions are not depoliticized, including a new administration in the Central Election Commission, the State Security Service, the Anti-Corruption Service, the Special Investigation Service, including the Personal Data Protection Service.

“The situation is critical, but I do not want to create false expectations for our citizens who are in a waiting mode, as if decisions will be made by December 29 and we will find a common solution.

Our political force has never been in a hurry, we have always made decisions consistently and have a firm position during meetings. A healthy way to defuse the political crisis is to hold new elections.

"The holding of elections is important, but we should be well aware that similar recommendations were made by the OSCE/ODIHR regarding other elections, for example in 2021, but the "Dream" held the elections in much worse conditions. Any recommendation, whether from the European Union, the OSCE/ODIHR, or another international organization, is like reading the Gospel of the Wolf over the "Dream".

When we demand new elections, our message must be very clear. Our political force clearly emphasizes this: if we do not have depoliticized state institutions, including a new administration in the CEC, as well as in the SSU, the Anti-Corruption Service, the Special Investigation Service, and the Personal Data Protection Service, we will not be able to have new types of elections," Sichinava said.
