According to Nona Qurdovanidze, the head of the Young Lawyers' Association of Georgia, the dismissal of people from the public sector is one form of terror.
She stated that the statements made by members of the "Georgian Dream" about cleansing the public service indicated that repression would begin, and indeed it has.
"This is one form of terror. In this regard, the report discusses not only the deterioration of the legislation but also the threats and publicly declared positions, including those by [Kakha] Kaladze and other representatives of the 'Georgian Dream,' that the public service would be cleansed, which indicated that repression would begin in the public sector, and it has indeed started. The first manifestation of this was that the legislative framework was prepared for this purpose. This includes the simplification of reorganization processes. It also means that mid-level officials are no longer considered civil servants and are subject to different regulations, such as the practice of administrative contracts. Although these changes have not yet been implemented, in the future, when they are activated, there is a significant risk that the public service will be fully subordinated to political influence, in this case, by 'Georgian Dream,' and attempts will be made to suppress any critical or alternative opinions. These are the legislative changes aimed at this, which have already had practical implications, not by the activation of this law, but through the use of existing laws and the dismissal of people from their jobs," said Qurdovanidze.
