According to the Mayor of Tbilisi, the idea that the City Hall employee Giga Sofromadze was dismissed on political grounds is a mere speculation.
As Kakha Kaladze stated while commenting on the relevant question, "Sofromadze's contract expired, and there was no need to extend it."
"The claim that someone was dismissed on political grounds is a lie and regular speculation. He was not a staff member; he was on a contract, and the contract expired. He was directly involved in implementing programs for people with disabilities. Today, all these programs have their respective leaders, and there was no need for his continued work. Therefore, the contract has ended, and there was no need for its continuation. It’s as simple as that. As for the rest, whoever wants to speculate, it’s their right," said Kakha Kaladze.
He also emphasized that employees in the City Hall were never restricted from expressing differing political views.
"We have never restricted anyone. There were many people with differing political views, who attended protests, made political statements, and evaluations. A clear example is one of the members of Nika Gvaramia's party, who was our employee. If we had such an approach where we persecuted differing political opinions, we would have dismissed those people, but we did not have that attitude. However, one thing I want to say is that what some public servants did was very severe because you can express any opinion under your own name, but it is categorically unacceptable when you do it collectively under the name of public service, bullying your colleagues and forcing them to sign. There is evidence of this. Any individual, regardless of where they work, can express their opinion," Kakha Kaladze stated.
