"Freedom Square" will not receive budgetary funding. This issue was not part of our coalition agreement, stated the political movement "Freedom Square," which is part of the "Strong Georgia" coalition, in response to information about parties receiving party funding allocated by the state.
As stated in the movement's press release, the main focus should now be on changes in foreign policy and public protests.
"Freedom Square" deems it necessary to publicly express its position regarding parties' budgetary funding:
In the fight to protect freedom and democracy, the unity of pro-Western parties is essential for the release of political prisoners and the calling of new elections.
"Freedom Square" will not receive budgetary funding. This issue was not part of our coalition agreement. We welcome any support directed toward the victims of the protests.
It is clear that no opposition coalition that has overcome the threshold recognizes the results of the elections. It is encouraging that the position on the illegitimacy of the elections and parliament has not changed.
Now, the main focus and energy should be directed toward the changed foreign circumstances and growing public protest for the benefit of our country, which will become the foundation for maintaining political and civil unity within the country, calling for new elections, and thus restoring justice," the statement said.
