Nordic and Baltic Countries: We are concerned that the country is heading toward deeper polarization and crisis. Georgia urgently needs a resolution to the crisis to restore public trust in democratic institutions, reads a joint statement by the foreign ministers of Nordic and Baltic countries (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden).

"We are seriously concerned about the situation in Georgia. We have called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the irregularities reported ahead of and during the parliamentary elections on 26 October," the statement reads.

The Nordic and Baltic countries urge Georgian authorities to take immediate steps to address the crisis, including implementing OSCE electoral recommendations and considering the possibility of new elections based on those recommendations.

"As long-standing friends of Georgia, and supporters of the European aspirations of the Georgian people,we are alarmed by the country’s path toward deeper polarisation and crisis. Georgia rgently needs a way out of the crisis, and to restore public trust in its democratic institutions. We call on the Georgian authorities to take immediate steps in this direction, including implementing OSCE electoral recommendations and considering the possibility of new elections based on those recommendations," the statement concludes, as shared on social media by Latvia’s Foreign Minister, Baiba Braže.
