The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs: Lithuania does not interfere in Georgia's internal politics

Lithuania's support for Georgia and the sanctions imposed against its politicians are not aimed at interfering in the country's internal politics, according to media reports. This statement was made by the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, during a conversation with journalists.

"This is not about domestic politics or supporting any specific political group. It is about Georgia's unfulfilled promise, made a year ago, regarding the conduct of free and fair elections, which is a condition for further developing its relationship with the European Union and obtaining EU candidate status," the minister told journalists.

Kęstutis Budrys responded to a question regarding comments made by Remigijus Žemaitaitis, leader of the "Nemuno Aušra" (Nemunas Dawn) party, who stated that Lithuania should not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.

"This is solely about [Georgia breaking its promise] and not about us trying to influence domestic political processes," the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.
