The Ombudsman: The tragic incident in the village of Saberio in the Gali district once again highlights the severe challenges regarding the protection of the rights of the population living in Georgia's occupied territories

The Public Defender of Georgia expresses deep sorrow over the death of five minors in a fire in the village of Saberio in the occupied Gali district and extends condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased children.

This information was shared by the office of the Public Defender.

As stated in the announcement, this tragic incident once again highlights the serious challenges in protecting the rights of the population living in Georgia's occupied territories, especially vulnerable and defenseless groups.

"Unfortunately, under the conditions of occupation, the lives and health of many citizens of Georgia, including children, are at risk every day. The Georgian government and the international community must use all available mechanisms to protect human rights in the occupied territories," the announcement states.

For reference, a fire broke out in a private home in the village of Saberio in the Gali district of occupied Abkhazia, resulting in the deaths of five children.
