The Legal Aid Network of NGOs has issued a statement saying that the illegal detention of peaceful demonstrators on January 11 was accompanied by the use of force by the police.

According to the information available to the Legal Aid Network, on January 11, 2025, the police detained more than 10 peaceful demonstrators in Tbilisi and Batumi.

“Some of them are still being held in temporary detention centers. In their communication with their lawyers, the detainees indicate the deliberate and illegal use of force by the police. In this regard, there was not only excessive force during and after the detention process, but also ill-treatment, which was manifested in physical, psychological and verbal violence. During the past night, the lawyers tried to meet with the detainees and provide them with legal assistance,” reads the statement.
