"On January 13, 1991, the brave and united Lithuanian people defended their independence. On this significant day, Georgia stands with Lithuania and its people," wrote Georgia's fifth President, Salome Zurabichvili, on social media platform X.
"Georgia always feels Lithuania’s strong support on its European path," she added.
It is worth noting that Lithuania commemorates Defenders of Freedom Day on January 13. From January 11 to 13, 1991, Soviet military units violently suppressed a pro-independence demonstration in Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital, resulting in the deaths of 14 peaceful protesters.
