"Every MP has a duty to show restraint – they should endure and accept what they deserve," stated Beka Liluashvili, one of the leaders of the For Georgia party, in response to the incident in Abu Dhabi.
According to him, such confrontations are entirely the result of the “reckless and incompetent Georgian Dream, which has done everything to divide society.”
“These confrontations, both those that have occurred in the streets and those that may happen in the future, are entirely due to the incompetent and reckless Georgian Dream, which has fostered division within society. Every MP must fulfill their duty of restraint and endure within those boundaries, accepting the consequences of their actions. Although we unequivocally condemn and distance ourselves from all forms of violence, we clearly understand that such incidents stem from the steps taken by Georgian Dream. There is no other foundation for this. Every representative of Georgian Dream must grasp this. This is their responsibility, and the solution lies with them. The way out of this situation is to promptly call for new elections and end this societal conflict,” Liluashvili said.
For context, in Abu Dhabi, Georgian Dream MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze reportedly got into a physical altercation with citizen Lasha Gabitashvili. Video footage of the incident has circulated on social media.
The incident occurred in a hotel dining area, where the footage shows Zarkua throwing food at Gabitashvili and engaging in a physical altercation, later joined by Sanikidze. Another Georgian Dream MP, Gela Samkharauli, was also present during the incident.
Later, Gabitashvili released a video statement, claiming that the incident was connected to a previous altercation in which he had called Zarkua and Sanikidze “Russian slaves.” During that earlier confrontation, the parties exchanged verbal insults.
