Jeanne Shaheen: There are still many challenges - everything from combating disinformation to confronting our adversaries, to championing democratic values in Georgia to standing up for those living under authoritarian rule in China

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, issued a statement in response to President Joe Biden’s final speech on his foreign policy accomplishments:

According to the statement, there are still many challenges facing the US - everything from combating disinformation to confronting our adversaries when they threaten freedom, to championing democratic values in the Republic of Georgia to standing up for those living under authoritarian rule in the People’s Republic of China.

“True leadership in American foreign policy requires a principled vision, a commitment to democratic ideals and steadfast resolve to defend democracy against rising authoritarianism. President Biden has embodied these ideals as he has worked to ensure that the American values of justice, truth and human dignity resonate across the globe.

"During the Biden administration, America has expanded and strengthened alliances like NATO and united a global coalition that continues to support Ukraine against President Putin’s illegal and unprovoked war. There are still many challenges facing our nation—everything from combating disinformation to confronting our adversaries when they threaten freedom, to championing democratic values in the Republic of Georgia to standing up for those living under authoritarian rule in the People’s Republic of China.

"As he concludes this chapter of distinguished service, I thank President Biden for his leadership. The best tribute to his legacy is to ensure our values remain the foundation of our leadership on the global stage."
