Freedom of the press is the backbone of democracy in Georgia and everywhere, the French Ambassador to Georgia, Sheraz Gasri, writes on the social platform X, where he shares a statement from the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

“Freedom of the press is the backbone of democracy in Georgia and everywhere. Media professionals shall be protected, not targeted”, she tweeted.

The international organization Reporters Without Borders is responding to the detention of Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder and director of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, and cameraman Guram Murvanidze and is calling for their immediate release and an impartial investigation into the circumstances of their detention.

“Reporters Without Borders demands the immediate release of Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder and director of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, and Guram Murvanidze, the cameraman of these media outlets, and an impartial investigation into the circumstances of their detention,” reads the statement.
