"I am deeply concerned about the brutal attack on Giorgi Gakharia in Batumi," wrote Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, on his X account.
"I demand a swift investigation into the crime and appropriate punishment for the perpetrator. The regime must protect critical voices and refrain from threatening them. I wish Giorgi a speedy and full recovery," Roth wrote.
The leader of "For Georgia," Giorgi Gakharia, was attacked in Batumi. The assault on the opposition politician occurred last night at the Sheraton Hotel. Gakharia was taken to a clinic but later discharged from the hospital. According to doctors, he suffered a fractured nasal bone and a concussion.
In addition to the attack on Giorgi Gakharia, another confrontation took place at the same hotel involving civil society representative Zviad Koridze. According to Koridze, he was confronted by Dimitri Samkharadze, a representative of the "Georgian Dream" party, and his associates.
