“In the context of the ongoing political crisis in Georgia, in recent days, we have witnessed more deeply concerning incidents.

The resurgence of violence against opposition politicians and the arbitrary detention of journalists and protesters is unacceptable.

We urge the Georgian Dream government to ensure that those responsible for violence are held accountable.

As a member of the Council of Europe, Georgia must protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of its citizens.

That is why, today, in the Council of Europe, the United Kingdom joined European partners in strongly condemning the violence against peaceful protesters, media representatives, and politicians,” the statement reads.
