GYLA demands the immediate suspension of the service powers of the Head of Batumi Police.
As stated by the Chairperson of GYLA, Nona Kurdovanidze, today she visited Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti," and attended her interrogation regarding the incident of ill-treatment.
Nona Kurdovanidze said that Mzia Amaglobeli provided detailed information to the Special Investigation Service about the episodes of ill-treatment that took place in the police station yard and building.
According to GYLA’s explanation, “after her detention, Irakli Dgebuadze verbally insulted her and later attempted to physically harm her several times in the police station, but other police officers were able to restrain Irakli Dgebuadze and remove him from the room.”
"Today, Nona Kurdovanidze, the Chairperson of GYLA, visited Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of 'Batumelebi' and 'Netgazeti,' at Rustavi Prison #5 and attended her interrogation regarding the ill-treatment incident.
Mzia Amaglobeli provided detailed information to the Special Investigation Service about the episodes of ill-treatment that took place in the police station yard and building. After her detention, Irakli Dgebuadze verbally insulted her and later attempted to physically harm her several times in the police station, but other police officers were able to restrain Irakli Dgebuadze and remove him from the room. Irakli Dgebuadze entered the room multiple times and continued his aggressive behavior toward her. During one of these entries, he spat in Mzia Amaglobeli's face. Additionally, as per her statement, Mzia Amaglobeli was denied access to water and toilet facilities for a period of time.”
GYLA calls for: The Special Investigation Service to promptly investigate the degrading treatment of Mzia Amaglobeli with the appropriate qualifications. The immediate suspension of the service powers of Irakli Dgebuadze, the Head of Batumi Police." – noted Kurdovanidze.
