Embassy denies reports that MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze will spend a month in the Abu Dhabi detention center

The Georgian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates states that the information that MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze will spend a month in the Abu Dhabi detention center is not true.

As the embassy told InterPressNews regarding the physical confrontation that occurred in Abu Dhabi, law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident.

In particular, they commented on the information released today by the Main Channel that MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze will spend a month in the Abu Dhabi pre-trial detention center before the court is scheduled.

"This is not true. What we can say is that law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident, which naturally involves the persons involved in the incident," the embassy told InterPressNews.

For information, Georgian Dream MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze physically confronted citizen Lasha Gabitashvili in Abu Dhabi a few days ago. The footage also shows that another Georgian Dream MP, Gela Samkharauli, was present at the scene. Video footage of the incident was spread via social media.

The incident took place in the hotel’s dining room. The footage shows that Irakli Zarkua threw food at Lasha Gabitashvili during dinner and physically confronted him, and then Viktor Sanikidze got involved in the fight.

Later, Lasha Gabitashvili released a video message in which he said that this was related to the incident that occurred the day before, when he called Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze “Russian slaves.” During the confrontation that occurred the day before, the parties verbally insulted each other.

Later, Georgian Dream MPs Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze released a video message, in which Zarkua said, “Some incident happened, it is not something to be proud of, but we should all know one thing – we are Georgians, a self-respecting nation, when my family, my relatives are insulted, there will always be a response and we will always give an answer like this.”
