James Risch: "We are disappointed with Georgia recently – we hope the Georgian people will take control and do what we believe they want to do"

"We are disappointed with Georgia recently, and we hope that the Georgian people will take control and do what we believe they want to do," said Republican Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, James Risch, in an interview with Voice of America.

Risch expressed hope that Georgia will become a democracy oriented toward the West.

"We are disappointed with Georgia recently, and we hope that the people living in Georgia will take control and do what we believe they want to do, and that it will become a better democracy, a democracy oriented toward the West," Risch stated.

In addition, Democratic Senator Tim Kaine commented on Georgia, saying that the U.S. side is deeply concerned about the erosion of democratic norms in the country.

"We are very concerned about the erosion of all democratic norms in Georgia. This deeply worries us. Members of our committee, who are focused on Europe, often talk about this issue. This regression is very concerning. Specifically, what the policy of this administration should be to contain this and curb this behavior, we will see in the future," Tim Kaine said in an interview with Voice of America.
