Zugdidi Court fines Mariam Sichinava, representative of Coalition for Change, and activist Keren Esebua 5,000 GEL each

Zugdidi District Court fined Mariam Sichinava, a representative of the Coalition for Change, and activist Keren Esebua 5,000 GEL each.

The decision was made by Judge Pati Purtskhvanidze. She found the activists guilty of violating Article 174-1, Part 4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which involves the use of pyrotechnics at a rally.

Judge Pati Purtskhvanidze cleared the activists of another article brought against them - Article 173, Part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which involves disobedience to the police. At the hearing, the parties examined video evidence that proved that Mariam Sichinava and Keren Esebua did not resist the police during their detention on January 16.

“No to Oligarchy,” “Freedom to the Prisoners of the Regime,” and “Unfair Trial” - these are the slogans that supporters of Mariam Sichinava and Keren Esebua came to the court with to protest their fines.

For information, on January 16, activists Mariam Sichinava and Keren Esebua were detained in Zugdidi for firing fireworks at a rally when citizens were gathering in front of the State Attorney’s Office building.
