Autocratic, repressive regimes always, first of all, attack representatives of the arts. In the 1930s, when the Bolshevik terror was raging, the main objects of attack were artists, because this field cannot exist without freedom, - said Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of the coalition "Strong Georgia", in connection with today's manifestation of actors in the "Free Studio" program of "PalitraNews".
According to Badri Japaridze, artists are those people who will not accept the existence of political prisoners in the country.
"It is not surprising that those people who most value the greatest value called freedom are on the front lines of this peaceful protest. It must be said that autocratic, repressive regimes always, first of all, attack representatives of the arts.
In the 1930s, when the Bolshevik terror was raging, the main targets of the attack were precisely representatives of the art sphere, because this is a field that cannot exist and breathe without freedom, therefore, it is not surprising that these people, most of whom were born in free Georgia, will be apologists for freedom, for the European future of the country, because the European future implies a free Georgia, a prosperous, strong and peaceful Georgia. These are people who will not accept the existence of political prisoners in our country,” Japaridze said.
According to him, “Georgian Dream” has failed to understand that it is dealing with a free society, and this freedom is incomprehensible to it because the entire vertical has been built on the obedience of one person.
When protests have been going on in the country for two months, sweeping across cities, and the Georgian Dream is meeting such protests with even more aggression and anger, this only confirms one thing - this is an established authoritarian regime that thinks it can intimidate people with its cruelty, stop protests with its brutal attacks, and cannot understand why such cruelty will lead to more protests. The Georgian Dream has failed to understand that it is dealing with a free society, with people who aspired to freedom, and once they have achieved freedom, they will fight to preserve it and will not give up.
This is incomprehensible to the Georgian Dream because it is not built on the principle of freedom, but on the principle of subordination, its entire vertical is built on the obedience of one person.
On one side is a free society, people who consider freedom as the main value, who peacefully fight for the freedom of the country, and on the other side is a government that relies solely on force and obedience.
There can be no agreement between these two sides until the government, which is in the hands of one man, realizes that it cannot continue to govern the country de facto in this way,” Japaridze said.
