The main indicator of how well Georgia has done is that today there is peace in Georgia and Georgia is not engulfed in the flames of war and the Russian flag is not flying in Tbilisi, because there was a very high probability that if we had acted incorrectly and taken one wrong step, we would not have been able to do so, - said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations.
Samkharadze spoke about the country's domestic and foreign policies and noted that until now the main policy for Georgia has been the policy of survival.
"I can say bluntly that in recent years we have actually had neither domestic policy nor foreign policy. Our main policy was the policy of survival, so that somehow our state would survive this very big war and confrontation, which in Russia is perceived not as a war waged to protect the Donbass or the Russian-speaking population, but as a war with the West and not only in Russia. This is also very important for understanding the global context, because in almost all the BRICS countries and a very large part of developing countries, this war is assessed as a confrontation between Russia and the West,” Samkharadze noted.
According to Samkharadze, they took into account the mood of the society and their real desires were reflected in the policy, which is still based on relatively conservative values and more respects the traditional, Christian values on which both America and Europe are based.
"We took into account the sentiments and values of our society because what was being imposed on us, including by specific players from the West, through NGOs, turned out to be unacceptable for a very large part of Georgian society. Accordingly, we acted to strengthen the sentiments that the vast majority of our society had," said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
